Biography

Dr. Diana Koszycki is a Professor of Educational Counselling at the University of Ottawa. She is also cross-appointed professor at the Faculty of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry. She was the former Research Unit Director of the Stress and Anxiety Clinical Research Unit at the University of Ottawa of Institute of Mental Health Research. Her primary research interest centers on the biological and psychological basis of pathological anxiety.  Currently, she is principal investigator of a 5-year CIHR funded study on biological and psychological risk markers for anxiety in children at high and low genetic risk for anxiety disorders. Another research focus has been to evaluate the efficacy of empirically-validated psychological interventions in medically ill patients, evaluate the efficacy of self-administered psychological interventions for anxiety, and evaluate the impact of psychotherapy on biological indices of anxiety in anxious youth. Dr. Koszycki also has a strong interest in alternative/complementary interventions including mindfulness meditation and spiritually-based interventions. She is currently principal investigator of a randomized controlled trial of a multifaith spiritually-based intervention for generalized anxiety disorder. 

Dr. Koszycki is a registered psychologist in the provinces of Ontario and Quebec. She is an Academy of Cognitive Therapy certified therapist and she participated in the Extramural Training Program for Residency Training Directors at the Beck Institute of Cognitive Therapy and Research.  For many years she was head of the Interpersonal Psychotherapy Training Module in the Department of Psychiatry, University of Ottawa.
